What to Expect 🌿
Morning: Awakening the Senses
We’ll begin by slowing down and opening ourselves to creativity through observation, sensory awareness, and reflection. Through guided writing exercises, we’ll explore how the sights, sounds, textures, and feelings around us can spark new ideas and stories.
You’ll leave the morning with a writing prompt to carry with you into our optional guided nature walk.
Afternoon: From Observation to Story
In the afternoon, we’ll bring our observations back to the page. Through guided visualization and creative writing exercises led by Dr. Elizabeth Santiago, we’ll explore how sensory details, memories, and emotions can help bring stories to life.
Whether you’re working on an existing project or starting something new, there will be space to experiment, follow your curiosity, and see where your imagination takes you.
Throughout the day, there will be plenty of room to reflect, write, share, and connect with other writers and creatives of color.
Who Is This Event For?
This retreat is intended to create space for writers and creatives of color to connect with one another, explore creative practices, and spend time outdoors. You do not need to consider yourself a professional writer to participate. Whether you write regularly, are working on a project, or simply want to make space for creativity, you are welcome to join us.
We hope you’ll join us for a day to slow down, get grounded in nature, and make space for our stories.
